Learning About Diwali
Last week our class met with our 5th grade learning buddies from Mrs. D'Amico to learn about Diwali. Diwali is a 5 day ancient Hindu festival celebrated in October or November. The celebration is marked by the cleaning of the house. The house is decorated with clay lamps called diyas and the creating of designs on the floor called rangoli with colored powder or sand. Families gather in bright new clothes for prayer and a feast. Diwali festivities also include sparklers and fireworks.
